Research files for the book Joseph Smith portraits : a search for the Prophet's likeness, ca. 1975-1997.

Items include research notes and materials regarding the many differenet representations of Joseph Smith (1805-1844). Contains copies of these likenesses, and also contains information on the different artists who have created them, particularly Sutcliffe Maudsley. A large portion of the material deals with the death mask of Joseph Smith, and its comparison to his portraits. Also includes information on physical traits of members of Joseph Smith's family, with photographs of them. There are replicas of the death masks of Joseph & Hyrum Smith, several oversized photographs, drafts of & publication information for the book, "Joseph Smith Portraits: A Search for the Prophet's Likeness," and computer disks that also contain research material & drafts. Finally, there is a manuscript item that compiles information on various LDS topics, most specifically marriage.

Letter written by Hyrum Smith and signed for Joseph Smith from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Oliver Granger. Smith writes of a Mr. Devenport from New York who brought a judgement in favor of Boynton & Hyde, and urges Granger to pay the "just" debt. He also writes of the deaths of D.C. Smith and Robert B. Thompson from "quick consumption", mentions Brother Phelps and Hiram Kimball, and describes drought conditions.
